About
I started this Tumblr because I was feeling down one day and pictures of baby elephants always cheer me up.
I love elephants, and not just because they are cute. Elephants are extremely intelligent and highly social animals and it saddens me that we are driving them toward extinction simply because of our lust for ivory and our refusal to share space with them. I come from the South Asian subcontinent and believe that elephants are especially significant as part of our cultural, national, and religious identities and that their loss will be felt on unimaginable levels.
While I appreciate the close bond that humans and elephants have shared over centuries, especially in South Asia, I believe that elephants should not be kept in cages, chained up, or taught tricks for our entertainment. Elephants do not belong in zoos or in circuses. As such, I will not post any pictures of baby elephants, no matter how cute, that show them in obvious situations of captivity.
I do support the work of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. As of now, my partner and I sponsor three babies and we hope to be able to continue our sponsorship in the future! I live for the day when we are able to travel to Kenya and visit “our” babies.
